The Friday Night Social

The Living Room Glasgow is probably one of my favourite places to hang out in Glasgow. When The Friday Night Social launched back in February, I was quick to reserve a booth for my friends & I. Why? Simply because I love the food, the staff and the cocktails.

Kicking off at 5pm every Friday (duuuh!) night, The Friday Night Social is one of the best ways to kickstart the weekend. You are met with a complimentary cocktail on arrival, canapés throughout the evening, free cocktail masterclasses and live music. What more could you ask for?

When we arrived, first up was our Cocktail Masterclass with the lovely bartender. Our class? Gin. I hate gin, so I decided to order lots of Mojitos for myself, as you do! If the masterclass was vodka, it’s totally be all over that. Alas, the evil gin won the vote with my friends. I took one for the team. Even though I have a hatred for gin, I did sip some but then I realised why I hated gin in the first place. Evil stuff that it is. Let’s not that ruin your evening though… as I say… I just really hate gin.

Cocktail Masterclass

Moving onto something more my style, I ordered a Signature Winter Berry French Martini Cocktail (£4.50) which is Grey Goose vodka, Chambord and Crème de Mure blackberry liqueur shaken to a froth with pineapple juice. Heaven in a glass. You need this drink in your life. It also helps that it was mixed by a rather cute bartender. Worth every penny. I can’t actually remember how many of these I ordered but my hangover the next day was well worth it. Let’s just ignore the photos of me hugging giant Magnum’s of Grey Goose Vodka that I found on my phone the next day.

Cocktail

After more alcohol, we decided to be “responsible” and eat something. The menu is classed as British Fusion which “brings together the classic tastes of favourite traditional dishes and produce, complementing them with exotic ingredients and enticing flavours from far-flung corners of the world”. I’ve eaten here so many times I’ve lost count and last month, their new menu was released (which I’ll be reviewing in a later post). The new menu is delicious making it so hard to decide what to get so a repeat visit is well recommended. That night, I had TLR Burger which is a big brioche bun of juicy wonders. I’m pretty sure that is the best way to describe it. Especially when under the influence of a vast amount of cocktails. It also tastes great while sober. Just so you know.

Drinks

As you can probably tell, alcohol was heavily involved in this evening. I shared a bottle of Red Wine with my friend Stephen while sipping Cocktails as well. Not the wisest idea, but the Red Wine was really good. I’ve added it onto my list of favourites. I also tried Raspberry Sambuca courtesy of free shots from a waitress. Gulp. Now I understand why I had a 2 day hangover *cries*

Wonderful Red Wine

While eating dinner and drinking, the pianist came out to serenade us. He had a lovely soulful voice and even took our request of playing John Legend’s Ordinary People. I love that song!  I don’t actually think he played a song I didn’t like. After an hour or so (okay I wasn’t exactly timing him!), it was time for the night to move on and the DJ started. I fell in love with the DJ and The Living Room even more when I heard R&B and Hip-Hop being played. Oh yes. Now this is truly my type of night.

More Cocktails

A few more cocktails later, it was time for us to leave, I had to catch the last train home (boooo!) at Midnight while The Living Room partied on until 3am. If you’re looking for something different to do on a Friday Night, you definitely should check it out.
