On Wednesday, I was invited to the Glasgow Hilton for Afternoon Tea at the semi-new Tì Tea Lounge courtesy of The Scottish Blogger Network in liaison with the lovely people over at DADA. I love Afternoon Tea, there is something to be said of the pure joy of eating little dainty cakes and sandwiches.
Derived from the Scottish Gaelic word for tea, Tì represents a modern, fashionable and cosmopolitan lounge filled with energy and personality. Tì not only offers traditional afternoon tea (£14 pp) but will introduce new versions of the classic with the “Tì Afternoon Tea with a Twist” including “Confessions of a Chocoholic” (£15 pp) and “Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea” (£17 pp).
We were met with a champagne reception and shown to our seats at the lounge, just off the lobby. Each table was perfectly laid out with dainty glass tea cups and staff then presented us with one of the three different types of Afternoon Teas they have on the menu. My table was presented with the Classic Afternoon Tea; an assortment of dainty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and strawberry jam, lemon pancakes and a selection of sweet artisan cakes.
The three Afternoon Teas are:
The Classic Afternoon Tea includes: Freshly cut finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, a selection of artisan cakes & lemon pancakes.
The Confessions of a Chocolate includes: Chocolate fondue, seasonal fruits, marshmallows, rolled gaufrettes & a selection of cakes to bite.
The Mad Hatters Tea Party includes: Party finger sandwiches, queen of hearts strawberries, a selection of cupcakes, themed cakes, freshly baked scones with clotted cream & a drink me potion (blue lemonade), not to mention party hats.
The cakes looked too good to eat, but since the whole point of being there was to eat, that’s just what I did! The cakes tasted as good as they looked, I didn’t dislike any of them but my favourite had to be the mini strawberry tart. As Emma, Lis & I were sampling the delights, we were eyeing up all the different Afternoon Teas laid out on other tables. Lis spotted the “Confessions of a Chocoholic” & mentioned it to one of the staff members who quickly brought it to our table; huge high five from our table! How could you not like a Chocolate Fondue? I was also able to sample the white chocolate covered strawberries from the Mad Hatters Tea Party; delectable.
Each Afternoon Tea is served with a pot of loose leaf Twinings Tea (or Costa coffee if you prefer) of your choice. We were brought a case of different little bottles of tea leaves and encouraged to sniff the contents. Using our noses, along with the menu and input from staff, we each picked the tea of our choice. Lis & I decided on “Russian Caravan” while Emma chose “Jasmine Pearl”.
The staff were great, giving us lots of information about the different teas, what the preferred accompaniments to the teas were & how to time the brewing of our tea to perfection with little sand timers. We even got the chance to sample the Tì Signature Cocktail which keys ingredients are gin and blackcurrant lavender tea, different to say the least!
I had a wonderful time at the Hilton and would definitely go back again for Afternoon Tea. It’s very reasonability priced compared to it’s competitors and the food was superb. The staff were tentative, friendly & passionate about their jobs which makes the atmosphere all that little bit better. Tì Tea Lounge is open Monday to Sunday 12:00 – 17:00.
